Now that the ball doesn't have to be stopped outside?

Now that the ball doesn't have to be stopped outside the D, do you still need a stopper?

Most teams I know use a stopper, for a number of reasons. If you are using a straight strike, then they will be able to strike the ball without having to worry about control (which will be quicker) while if you are using a drag flick, then they will need the ball stopped for them. Hope that helps!

What is the rule exactly though??

Do you mean at a short corner (Penalty corner)? I'm curious as well.... as far as I know (in Holland) the ball still needs to be out of the anyway....

Hi all the rule says that ball has to be "played" (instead of "stopped") outside the D. and this rule is almost 4 years old now. So, the best you can get is to play as fast as you can. For a straight hit, there is no special need for the ball to stay still, but for the drag flick, the best is with the ball stand still. if the ball is not stopped correctly, you can play the same. bye Davide

That was exactly what I was thinking of as well... Although the ball doesn't needs to be stopped, alle the teams still use a "stopper". Advantage is that the short corner can still be executed in a fast way. If there is a strike on goal, he/she doesn't need to worry about controlling the ball and a drag flick is at it's best if the ball stands still....
